A Heart for Giving

Read Exodus 36 – 37

And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make. And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing. Exodus 36: 5-6 KJV

When Israel began to build the Tabernacle, as their place of meeting with God in the wilderness, Moses shared with the people what was needed for the Tabernacle and its furnishings. The people responded generously with the treasures they had brought out of Egypt. So generous was their giving, the craftsmen responsible for building the Tabernacle went to Moses and reported that they had received more than they needed to fulfill their task. Because of this report Moses restrained the people from giving more. Can you imagine that? I have never heard a pastor or church do such a thing. Usually the problem is not that churches have received more than enough to do their work. Usually it is the opposite. Although some give generously from the heart, too many fail to. The giving of the Israelites was willing and generous; it should always be for God’s people.

Lord, I want to have a generous and willing heart in giving to Your work out of the resources You have provided to me. Instead of giving less than enough, help me to give more than enough in demonstration of my love and appreciation for all You have done.
