A Living Sacrifice to God

By March 22, 2014No Comments

Read Judges 13 – 16

And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. Judges 16:30 KJV

This is a sad statement about the life of Samson; he accomplished more through his death than through his life. It did not need to be that way. He had far more potential in life than he lived up to: he had godly parents, God’s plan for his life, and God’s power, but he wasted all three on sinful desires. When he yielded to the Spirit of God he accomplished the great feats of strength that he is so well known for, but in between he was weak because he yielded to fleshly desires. Like Samson, you and I have tremendous resources for strength (God’s presence, power, and promises), but the availability of these resources do not guarantee we will enjoy our God-given potential. To enjoy their benefits we must consistently use them. Samson did not, and fell short of his real potential. Rather than a dead sacrifice like Samson we can accomplish much more as a living consistent sacrifice.

Lord, I know I am so much stronger when yielded to you. Instead of seeking my own pleasure help me be a living sacrifice, which is both accepted and reasonable to You.
