Being A Witness of Christ

By December 10, 2013No Comments

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. Acts 8:35 KJV

A man of Ethiopia had been to Jerusalem to worship. He was a Gentile who feared God but had not been introduced to Jesus. On his way home he had stopped and was reading in Isaiah 53. Philip, an evangelist, and a deacon of the church in Jerusalem, was lead by the Spirit to an opportunity to share the gospel with this Ethiopian. Starting with the same passage in Isaiah Philip was able to introduce him to Jesus with the result that he believed and was baptized. Philip did three things that must be true of us if we want opportunities to effectively share Christ with others; we must be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit, familiar with the Scriptures so we can start at any place, and willing to open our mouth.

Lord, I want to be an effective witness of You in my encounters with others just as Philip was with the Ethiopian. Help me be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit, disciplined in Your Word, and willing to share the gospel when the opportunity is given.
