Doing God’s Work

By August 22, 2014No Comments

Read Jeremiah 46 – 49

Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully. Jeremiah 48:10 KJV

This is a prophecy to Babylon as God’s instrument of judgment against the Moabites. Moab was to be judged because of their idolatry, pride, and their harshness towards Israel. Babylon was to fully carry out God’s work, to be negligent or deceitful in doing so would bring the curse of Moab upon them. As God’s instruments today, our work is far more encouraging. Rather than shedding blood, we are to spare blood by warning others of judgment to come that they might flee to Jesus for salvation. It is a task which brings joy to both parties: joy for us because we are messengers of salvation, and joy for them because they are spared from judgment. Such a task must be taken seriously, we dare not be negligent or deceitful in carrying out this important work the Lord has given to us. The eternal souls of men, women, and children depend on us to do the work God has given us.

Lord, I have a relationship with you because others were not negligent or deceitful in carrying out Your work in my behalf. Help me responsibly and thoroughly do the work You have given me to do in behalf of others.

A question to ponder: Am I being deceitful about completing the task God has called me to, or am I honestly warning others of God’s judgment to come?
