Forsaken For Us

Read Psalm 15 – 22

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? Psalm 22:1 KJV

This great, soul-touching, faith-building Psalm contains the statements of Christ as He suffered on the cross for our sins. These first words catch our attention for we know Jesus spoke them just before His death. Imagine Jesus, the Son of God, was forsaken by the Father as He took our sin upon Himself. He who knew no sin became sin for us. Habakkuk 1:13 teaches God the Father can not look upon sin. As the Son took our sin upon Himself, the Father had to look away. Can you imagine that? Actually, you and I cannot imagine it at all. We are accustomed to living in sin, we are accustomed to living separated from God, but Jesus went from perfect holiness and intimacy with the Father to bearing our sin, separated from the Father, and to taste the sting of death. Read the whole Psalm as it prophetically teaches the crucifixion, resurrection, and glorification of Christ.

Lord, thank You or all You endured at the cross for me and the rest of mankind. Certainly we did not deserve it. Reading this Psalm reminds me this was Your plan through the ages. You were not just forced on the cross by the hands of wicked men, but were delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God (Acts 2:23).
