God Makes Us to Laugh

January 7 – Morning

Read Genesis 21 – 23

And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Genesis 21:6 KJV

When God called Abram in Genesis 12, He promised to make of Abram a great nation. Through the years as he walked with God, he repeatedly heard God promise him a seed, of which Sarai, his wife, would be the mother. The years went quickly, and having had their names changed to Abraham and Sarah, these two had become old. In chapter 17, when Abraham was 100 years old, God again affirmed His promise. Verse 17 tells us Abraham fell to the ground and laughed. It was laughter of disbelief. In chapter 18, when Sarah was at least 90 years old, God again affirmed His promise. Overhearing it, in verse 12, Sarah laughed. This too was laughter of disbelief. She was reminded nothing is too hard for God. One year later, she gave birth to Isaac, whose name means laughter. This was the joy that comes from waiting on God, and the fulfillment of His promise in life.

Lord, you have made me to laugh. Looking back through my life, my walk with you has enabled me to experience more joy than I would have ever imagined. It brought joy when you forgave me of sin, experiencing the fulfillment of your promises has given me joy, and your faithful flow of blessing has made me to laugh.

A question to ponder: With Abraham and Sarah, God turned the laughter of disbelief into the laughter of belief, when has God filled you with joy when you did not expect it?
