God’s Perfect Time

Read Genesis 41 – 42

Then spoke the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day. Genesis 41:9 KJV

Two years went by before the Butler remembered the promise he had made to Joseph while in prison with him. Two years more in prison is a long time to wait, but this passage impresses us with the perfect timing of God. Had Joseph been released two years earlier, who knows what would have become of him! Not only had Joseph been waiting two additional years, but it had now been thirteen years since God originally planted a dream of greatness in his heart. Through those years Joseph had learned humility and patience, his faith grew, and he matured. When the time was perfect, God lifted him up to a position of ministry and great authority. Too often, I suspect, we miss out on God’s best because we are not willing to wait on God’s timing. Later we will see, because Joseph waited on the Lord, he was able to look back on his life and see God’s timing in it all.

Lord, like most people, I tend to be impatient. I want things to happen quickly, with every step being successful. If things don’t happen, I often try to make them happen. This usually results in frustration and exhaustion. Help me wait on you and your perfect time.

A question to ponder: Is there an incident in your life when waiting turned out far better for you than if you had rushed the timing?
