God’s Presence is Constant

Read Genesis 38 – 40

But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:21 KJV

At 17, God placed in the heart of Joseph thoughts of greatness, but from that moment his experience seemed the opposite. He was mistreated by his brothers and sold into slavery. He was falsely accused by his master’s wife and placed in prison. His circumstances were ever changing and never seemed good. However, one thing never changed; the Lord was with him. God’s presence was constant regardless of the circumstances. Joseph clearly had a sense of this. Because he believed God was with him, he responded to his circumstances in a way that allowed him to prosper. Both his master and the jail-keeper saw this difference in Joseph and promoted him. His promotions were God’s favor. When we believe God is with us, regardless of our circumstances, and act accordingly, we will rise above our circumstances, and people will notice the difference God makes in our life.

Lord, in this ever changing world, filled with enough ups and downs to distract or discourage the best of us, I am thankful for the continuance of Your presence. There are times when I am tempted to give up, but because I am assured of Your presence, I have always been able to continue. Thank You for such comfort, strength, and encouragement.
