Insight for the Future

By July 9, 2013No Comments

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. Deuteronomy 18:10-11 KJV

There are actually nine different means of communication with the spirit world mentioned in these two verses. They were all an abomination to God, and God’s people were not to be associated with any of them. The worst of the list, in my estimation, is the first. It is unbelievable that parents would have sacrificed their children for a chance to learn about the future. Tragically, all of these things still exist. They are part of the world we live in, and still a temptation to God’s people. Tragically, parents still sacrifice their children. It may not be on a fiery altar but abortion, child neglect and abuse are simply modern forms of the same old sin. God’s Word provides the only insight to the future.

Lord, I honestly do not understand the appetite that people, even professing Christians, have with occultist practices. Your Word warns us against it so often that I have to assume that it is a real danger for me, and so I ask You for protection against such practices in my own life either knowingly or ignorantly. In my desire to know the future may I always look to and depend on Your Word alone.
