Insight for the Future

Read Deuteronomy 17 – 20

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. Deuteronomy 18:10-11 KJV

There are nine different means of communication with the spirit world mentioned in these verses. They were all an abomination to God, and his people were not to practice them. The worst of the list, in my estimation, is the first. It is unfathomable that parents would have sacrificed their children for a chance to learn about the future. Tragically, all of these activities still exist. They are part of the world we live in. And while still attract people, they remain an abomination to God, and are not to be practiced by his people. Worst of all, parents still sacrifice their children. It may not be on a fiery altar but abortion, child neglect and abuse are simply modern forms of the same old sin. Insight into the future will not be found through divination, astrology, charmers, or mediums; insight into the future is found in the revealed will of God set forth for us in his Word

Lord, I honestly do not understand the appetite people, even professing Christians, have with occultist practices. Your Word warns us against it so often I have to assume it is a real danger for me, and so I ask you for protection against such practices in my own life; either knowingly or ignorantly. In my desire to know the future may I always look to and depend on your Word alone.
