Read 1 Corinthians 11 – 13
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 1 Corinthians 12:2-3 KJV
As Christians, we talk about and live our lives in keeping with the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This is entirely different than our previous non-Christian experience. Previously, two things were true of us: (1) we were Gentiles which means we were not the people of God, and (2) we were led by dumb idols. Idols that could not speak, see, hear, feel, and could not do anything for us. Idolatry is not limited to bowing before carved images; it also involves maintaining false ideas about God; ideas not taught in the Scriptures. But upon exercising faith in Jesus Christ our circumstances changed. God the Holy Spirit is now at work in us. He enables us to call Jesus, Lord; this is to consider Him the master of our life. Our ability to call Jesus, Lord, is significant. It means we belong to Him; He is the one who gives us meaning and purpose in life, and is the one who is directing our life.
Lord, what a change has taken place in my life; the change from being led by dumb idols to being led by the Holy Spirit. To know and serve you has been the most significant change of my life. It continues to give me confidence in all I do.
A question to ponder: The ability to call Jesus, Lord, implies many lifestyle changes; what are some expected changes once Jesus is acknowledge as the master of our life?
