Life without a King

By May 15, 2017No Comments

In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25 KJV

This is the concluding statement to the book of Judges. It is also the theme of the book explaining the many heartbreaking acts of disobedience we find throughout. In reality Israel did have a king, the Lord was their King, but in failing to acknowledge Him they lived as if they had no king, no one to be accountable to, and no standard of law to judge their lives by. As a result they did what was right in their own eyes. They made their own choices about right and wrong. The consequences of living this way are openly displayed in the book. While reading the book, if you ever wondered how the people of God could behave like this, then here is the answer. Too often their days look like our days and we suffer the consequences of living life on our terms. But we too are accountable to God. Rather than doing what is right in our own eyes how much better to live with His rule.

Lord, I have experienced enough pain in life because I chose to do things my own way. I bow to you as the king of my life, help me do that which is right in your eyes rather than mine.
