Living a Separated Life

By May 27, 2013No Comments

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD. Numbers 6:1-2 KJV

A Nazarite (Read Numbers 6:1-21) was one who made a vow for a time of special devotion to the Lord. These men and women were to consider themselves holy or separated to the Lord. There were three prohibitions: (1) total abstinence from anything associated with the grapevine (influenced only by the Lord); (2) no cutting of their hair (a shame, humbled before the Lord); and (3) no contact with a dead body (to avoid defilement). Normally this would last for only a brief time, but in some cases, like with Samson and John the Baptist, the vow lasted for their lifetime. Although we do not make such vows, as Christians, our lives should be wholly separated unto the Lord for life.

Lord, help me to live a life that is wholly set apart unto You. I want to be under Your influence, I want to be humble before You, and I want to live a life that is clean, undefiled by the things of this world.
