Read Deuteronomy 4 – 6
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you. Deuteronomy 4:1 KJV
We live in challenging times. Many offer advice on how to get through it. God has always sought to prepare His people for such times. Having reviewed the forty years of wandering, Moses took his hearers back to the giving of the law and made applications as they prepared for their future. (1) In challenging times, to possess the promises of God we must cleave to Him. (2) In challenging times, to have wisdom we must know and keep the statutes of the Lord. It will help us in our personal decision making, and others will recognize us as people of wisdom. (3) In challenging times, no person or nation is ever so great as when the Lord God is near them. God is the One who makes us great; keep, obey, and call on Him in everything. (4) In challenging times, we must take heed and be diligent with our soul. If we do these things, we will meet the challenge of our time.
Lord, in challenging times people often look for shortcuts or advice that sounds easy, but your wisdom prepares us for the long haul. I want advice that will not just get me through but keep me through. Help me cling to you and your wisdom.
