Long Life and Vitality

Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. Joshua 14:12 KJV

This was the testimony of Caleb, a remarkable man at the age of 85. He, along with Joshua, had been among the 12 spies Moses had sent into the land 40 years earlier. They alone of their peers still lived. The others all died in the wilderness due to rebellious unbelief. The others did not believe God could do what he promised. However, Caleb’s faith in the ability of God had not diminished with time or age. Through the eyes of faith he saw challenges differently than most, and was therefore still prepared to take on mountains and giants. Despite his age, he still wanted what God had promised him. That was the secret to his long life and vitality. The promise of God had been his driving motivation. He knew what God had promised, believed God was able, and was willing to trust God for it. Caleb finished his course well and is a good example to follow today.

Lord, help be to finish my course as Caleb did, claiming your promises and stepping out in faith to the very end. Even now, help me see my mountains and giants through the eyes of faith, trusting you, your ability and promises.
