Prayer for God’s Blessing

Read Genesis 24:1-15

And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham. Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water. Genesis 24:12-13 KJV

Abraham had sent his most trusted servant, Eliezer, who ruled over all he had, on a long journey in search of a wife for his son Isaac. She was to come from his people rather than the godless Canaanites of the land. Eliezer followed his master’s instructions and upon arrival made prayer his first priority. Too often we are given plans to follow and forget the plans of even the wisest men are fruitless without the Lord’s involvement. As he prayed, Eliezer first addressed God by His most specific compound name. Then and now there are many false notions about God, so it is important to be specific in whom we are addressing. Our Lord taught us the same in His Model Prayer. Eliezer prayed based on the promises God made to Abraham. Our most effective prayers will always be based on God’s promises. Finally, he prayer specifically, for which he was given a specific answer.

Lord, because Eliezer made specific prayer, addressed to you, and based on your promises his priority he was blessed in fulfilling his responsibility. Too often we let impatience rule our plans and fail to give prayer its place of place. Because we want your success help us adopt Eliezer’s pattern in our life.

A question to ponder: Besides impatience what are some other reasons why people might not make prayer a priority in their daily endeavors?
