Resurrection Hope

Read Job 11 – 14

If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Job 14:14 KJV

When people die, will they live again? That is a question most of us have asked at some point, usually in a time of suffering or when a loved one has died. In such moments we often feel discouraged and a bit hopeless. Job’s statement however was not indicating fear of death or a sense of hopelessness about death, instead it indicated confidence. Going through a horrible time of suffering, Job’s faith shined through. He believed death would be the end of his pain, but not the end of his existence. He looked beyond the grave to the resurrection. He understood death to only be for a set time, to be followed by a change. The Apostle Paul says something similar in 1 Corinthians 15:51. There he indicates that we shall not all die but we will all be changed, speaking of the resurrection of our bodies. If Job had cause for hope, how much more we should because of our faith in Jesus Christ.

Lord, how grateful I am that death does not get the victory over us. Because of Your work on the cross and Your resurrection from the dead we have hope beyond the sufferings of this life and the grave. Because You live, we shall live also!

A question to ponder: How has my hope in the resurrection changed the way I view life and death?
