Seeing the Creator

Read Romans 1 – 2

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 KJV

The book of Romans is widely recognized as the Apostle Paul’s introduction to Bible doctrine. As he begins to set forth his case for faith in Jesus Christ, he starts with general revelation; the self-revelation of God in creation. Paul is saying our initial understanding of God comes from the created world around us. Although it does not teach us all the Bible, as special revelation, does, it is a starting place; teaching us enough to know God is real, and enough to want to know Him better. Looking to the heavens or from a mountain top, who hasn’t thought of God’s existence? As presented in this verse, general revelation has a three-fold purpose: (1) it manifests to all people the existence of God; (2) illustrates for all people the person and power of God; and (3) makes all people accountable to God and without excuse in judgment.Creation points people to the Creator if they will look.

Lord, how thrilling it is to look into the heavens or a rolling countryside from a high vantage point and be lifted in contemplation of you. I enjoy what it teaches me about your beauty, power, and wisdom.

A question to ponder: Can you describe a time you were outdoors and were struck with the existence of God by your surroundings?
