Separating for True Worship

Read 2 Chronicles 9 – 12

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts. For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the LORD. 2 Chronicles 11:13-14 KJV

Can you imagine what it would be like to have every godly leader leave your area, state, or even the country as a whole? What a vacuum of godliness would be left behind! Hopefully such a departure would immediately be noticed. When the northern tribes of Israel separated from Judah, their new ruler, Jeroboam, set up a false religion, with false priests, in the land. This left the godly leaders a choice, they could stay and accommodate the change, or they had to separate themselves from the false religion in order to worship God as He deserved and demanded. They chose to separate. It is refreshing to see later in verse 16 all that set their heart to seek the Lord throughout the northern tribes followed their good example. In today’s religious climate, separating from false teachers and religions is usually viewed as disruptive, but it is the only way to maintain purity of faith.

Lord, grant me the wisdom and strength to separate from false teachers and religions for the sake of true worship, and for the sake of those who count on my example. Although there is always pressure to accommodate, help me stand for truth and lead in the way of righteousness that others can be clearly pointed to You.
