Serve the Lord, But…..

By January 21, 2014No Comments

And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land. Exodus 8:25 KJV

When Moses and the people of Israel decided they were going to serve the Lord, Pharaoh God’s enemy, offered a compromise: serve your God, but stay in the land. That doesn’t sound like much of a compromise, but in fact, it is huge. Pharaoh knew if they stayed, their lifestyles would not change and they would remain in bondage. It was the same as saying, serve the Lord, but don’t let it change you. That is a compromise God’s people often succumb to. We make a decision to serve the Lord and the enemy of our souls uses someone close to us who advices we not let it change the way we live. He knows if our decision does not change our lifestyle, our decision to serve God will be neutralized. Moses quickly saw the problem and replied it was not right to stay in the land. He refused the compromise. To serve the Lord demands a change so we can break free of bondage.

Lord, looking back, I am grateful for wise counselors who advised no concessions in my decisions to serve you. They understood, what I now understand, that compromise with the world will always keep me from serving You. Help me remain true to You and careful to avoid compromise.
