Set Apart Unto God

By May 13, 2013No Comments

Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.  Leviticus 11:43-45 KJV

There are two things worth noticing in theses verses: the ceremonial law concerning food, and the expectation of God. For Christians, the ceremonial law is not in effect (Mark 7:18-23; Acts 15). However, God’s expectation concerning His people remains the same (1 Peter 1:15-16). As He is holy, we too are expected to be holy. Because of all that He has done for us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are expected to be set apart from the sins of the world that He saved us from, and to be set apart unto Him. To be holy is to be conformed to His image, rather than the world. Christians should not blend in with everyone else; they should stand out because of the difference God makes in their lives.

Lord, I do thank You for saving me out of this world, and for making the difference in my life that You have. I do want to be holy. I do want to be set apart unto You. As the sins of this world defile my usefulness by You, help me make the decisions that will keep me clean and conformed to Your holy image.
