Set Apart Unto God

Read Leviticus 11:39-47

Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.  Leviticus 11:43-45 KJV

There are two things worth noticing in theses verses: first the ceremonial law concerning food, and second the holy expectations of God. Although some still get sidetracked by the ceremonial law, for Christians it is no longer in force (Mark 7:18-23; Acts 15). We are free from the Law. However, God’s expectations for His people concerning sin and holiness remains the same (1 Peter 1:15-16). As He is holy, we too are expected to be holy. Because of all He has done for us, especially through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are expected to be set apart from the sins of the world, and set apart to Him and for His use. To be holy is to be conformed to God’s image, rather than remaining like the rest of the world or becoming more like the world. Christians should not blend in with everyone else; they should stand out because of the difference God makes in their lives.

Lord, I do thank you for saving me out of this world, and making the difference in my life you have. I do want to be holy and set apart unto you. As the sins of this world defile my usefulness, help me make decisions that will keep me clean and useful for you.
