Showing Generosity to Others

Read Leviticus 23 – 24

And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 23:22 KJV

Generosity starts with God, He is generous, and because this is true, His people are to be generous as well. It is a reflection of His involvement in their life, and a display of their appreciation to Him. For the Israelites, the promise of land and crops came with a command to be generous, the land belonged to God and the harvest was His blessing. Generosity should breed generosity. The poor and the stranger were to be given consideration. During their time in Egypt, the people of God had experienced both. Failing to be generous to the same would be a sin for those who had received so much. These continue as good lessons today. God’s generosity to us should breed generosity. We are reminded in James 1:17 that every good and perfect gift comes down from God above. Having been recipients of His goodness what a shame it would be not to share it!

Lord, I was a stranger and you took me in. I was poor and you have blessed me with the riches of heaven. Help me never forget where I came from, and what I continue to receive. As you have blessed me use me to be a blessing to others.
