The Best Path to Follow

By January 22, 2014No Comments

And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt. Exodus 13:17 KJV

Looking at a map you will see the distance between Egypt and the land of Canaan is fairly short. It would not have taken long to walk. But the area was heavily fortified, would have put the newly delivered people of Israel in battle immediately, and God knew they were not ready for battle so soon, so He led them down a much longer path; a route that would allow them to be tested and strengthened a little at a time. How comforting that should be for us! God treats each of us the same way. He doesn’t bring us into situations He knows we are not ready for. That is difficult to believe at times. We look at things and think a different way would be easier or faster, but God doesn’t lead us in that direction, and we wonder why. From our perspective it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes we choose our own way. But we don’t know what God knows! It is always best to follow His lead.

Lord, I know I have often been impatient in my walk with you. Too many times I have tried to do things my own way only to suffer the consequences. How I wish I would have always chosen Your leading. As I have learned, both by Your Word and through personal experience that Your leading is best for me, help me to consistently follow You.
