The Blessing of the Lord

By February 15, 2014No Comments

Read Numbers 6 – 7

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Numbers 6:24-26 KJV

What wonderful words of blessing and encouragement these are! I have often used them at the close of a funeral service. When hearts are grieving and in need of being lifted up there is nothing more encouraging than a reminder of God’s presence. But obviously, these words are good for all occasions. In every situation we need the Lord’s blessing, grace, and peace. It is His shining countenance that holds us up and enables us to meet the challenges of life. We enjoy this as we spend time before Him each day. But notice, although this is a blessing that should be sought after and enjoyed, it is especially a blessing to be shared with others. Aaron and his sons were to bless the people (6:23). As a holy priesthood unto God, we should do no less. In God’s name we are to bless those we have daily contact with. We bless them with the blessing we have received from God.

Lord, I need Your blessing. I need the warmth of Your face shinning upon me. There is so much in this world that wears me down and so I need to be lifted by You. But as I experience Your peace and blessing, help me not to forget that I am surrounded by others who need the same thing. Use me to bless them and hold them up in Your name.
