The Cloud of the Lord

By May 2, 2013No Comments

And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. Exodus 40:36-38 KJV

Once the Tabernacle was built and properly consecrated, the cloud of the LORD descended upon it. The cloud was a manifestation of the glory or presence of God. It meant that God dwelt among them. What an encouraging conclusion the book of Exodus provides with the image of God’s presence among His people, protecting and directing them. We might be tempted to wish the same were still true: that we could see His presence in a cloud and move only when He moves. However, as Christians, we have it far better. For us God does not dwell in a tent, instead the presence of God dwells in us. Our own bodies have become the tabernacle (dwelling place) of God the Holy Spirit.

Lord, what an awesome privilege You have given to us that we might be the dwelling place of God. It escapes my ability to fully comprehend. Thank You for Your presence in my life. Help me to keep Your tabernacle clean. Also, help me to be sensitive to Your leading that I might go when You want me to go and to stay when You want me to stay.
