The Death of Saints

By July 4, 2014No Comments

Read Psalm 116—118.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15, KJV).

The death of a loved one can be, and often is, the most difficult experience we face in life. Oftentimes it is expected, but quite often it is not. It takes us by surprise through a sudden illness or accident. In either case we struggle because of the loss of our loved one. We cannot talk with them, visit them, or just be with them as before. A void is left that is difficult to fill. However, the death of a saint, a person who knows the Lord, is precious in the sight of God. (1) It is precious because of His promises. The death of God’s people set forth the difference His promises of eternal life make in the life and death of His loved ones. (2) It is precious because it is a promotion. God’s people are removed from the difficulties of this world, promoted to glory, and abide in a home He prepared for them. (3) It is precious because of His presence. He embraces us and allows us to be with Him.

Lord, I am encouraged by the different way You look at death. We see our loved ones departing, but You see them coming home after a long journey to enjoy Your promises, exalted position, and presence. What a difference Your perspective makes!

A question to ponder: God has sought to encourage us with many illustrations of Heaven. How many can you think of as you go through the day?
