The Determination of Unbelief

Read John 11 – 12

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. John 11:53 KJV

This decision expresses the determination of unbelief. The rich man in Hades had argued if one would return from the dead unbelievers like his brothers, confronted with such obvious tangible evidence would believe (Luke 16:27-31). The response was if they did not believe Moses, someone rising from the dead would not make a difference. That truth is certainly demonstrated here. Although many witnessed Lazarus being brought back to life, not all put their trust in Jesus, and some were even more determined than ever to put an end to Jesus. This will sound strange but I am encouraged by this. So many times upon making the gospel clear people have still not believed. I tend to blame my inability to communicate well, but then I am reminded, if they would not believe in Jesus after witnessing His raising of Lazarus, then it is understandable many still will not believe.

Lord, I am encouraged the problem is not always my inability to communicate effectively, but at the same time I am also discouraged by such unbelief. Regardless of the response I want to faithfully declare the gospel message. Help me keep in mind that even though some are determined in their unbelief, others will hear and believe.

A question to ponder: What are some things I can do to make sure I am faithfully and effectively communicating the gospel to others?
