The Fire and the Glory

By May 13, 2014No Comments

Read 2 Chronicles 5 – 8

Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house. 2 Chronicles 7:1-2 KJV

These are exciting words. Upon completing the construction of the Temple, Solomon knelt to pray in behalf of all Israel. It is one of the great prayers of the Bible. When he finished praying, fire came down from heaven. Wow! God accepted the prayer and sacrifices and His glory filled the Temple. This sounds like an amazing and wonderful scene. God’s glory so filled the Temple there was no room left for the priests, and the people immediately fell to the ground and worshipped. So would have we! Do you long for the fire of heaven to fall? Do you long for the glory of God to fill His Temple? Today, believers are the temple of God. As we walk with Him based on His Word, humble ourselves, and pray based on His sacrifice the Lord Jesus Christ, we can expect the fire of heaven, and the glory of God, His approving presence, to fill the temple of our lives.

Lord, too many times it seems that Your fire and glory have been absent from my life. What a great loss on my part! Help me so live before You that Your approving presence would not be a rare experience but the normal experience of my Christian life.
