The Grip of His Hands

Read John 9 – 10

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:28-29 KJV

These words of Christ provide the child of God with unbeatable assurance and security. First, Jesus promises His sheep, those who believe in Him, eternal life. In this instance eternal emphasizes life with God without end. This eternal life is secure because it is based on His promise and not our ability to keep it. Jesus keeps every promise He makes. Second, He holds us in His hand. Often, when someone takes us by the hand it gives us a sense of assurance. Jesus is promising to hold us securely in His hand, and He adds that no one can take us out of His grip. Imagine someone trying to take a child held in the grip of his dad. Loving his child the dad would not let go. Third not only are we held in the Son’s hand, but we are also in the hand of the Father (a double grip) and since none are greater than He, nothing and no one can take us from Him. That is unbeatable Security!

Lord, thank You for Your promise of salvation and the unbeatable assurance and security You attach to it. How comforting it is to know that I am held firmly in the hands of the Father and the Son!

A question to ponder: Since we are so secure in the grip of both Father and Son, how should that affect the way we live for the Lord?
