The Morning and Evening Sacrifice

By March 17, 2017No Comments

And thou shalt say unto them, this is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the Lord; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering. The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even. Numbers 28:3-4 KJV

This is a restatement of the daily sacrifice for atonement of sins required of Israel forty years earlier at the foot of Mount Sinai (Exodus 29:37-43). Based on this daily atonement God covered their sins and met with them at the Tabernacle. As a new generation readied to enter the Land of Promise it was important they never neglected these daily sacrifices. With the start of each new day, and the challenges it would contain, it was crucial to start having a right relationship with God. At the end of the day, and its rest from the labor and challenges of the day, how crucial to finish having a right relationship with God! Today, we do not have a morning and evening sacrifice of atonement for sins, this was fulfilled in the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:12), however, how important it still is to start and end each day having a right relationship with God through that one sacrifice!

Lord, in the battles of the new land I’m sure it was tempting to skip the daily sacrifices, but how devastating it would have been! In the challenges of daily life it is still tempting to skip time with you at the start and end of each day, but to do so it harmful to us as well. Help me maintain this daily discipline for my spiritual well-being and those I minister to.
