Read 1 Chronicles 25 – 27

Let it never be said that being a musician or worship leader in church is not very important! The significance God gives to musicians and music in worship is well illustrated in this passage. It is interesting that even the captains of the army were involved with the choice of musicians because of their value in God’s Battles. The note we should especially catch is that these men were to prophesy with their music. Prophesy was not limited to for-telling or even direct revelation from God, although God did use Asaph in the writing of many of the prophetic psalms. The primary use of prophesy even today is in the communication of truth. When the musicians played their instruments and sang their songs, they were not just trying to accomplish a good sound; their primary intention was to effectively communicate truth for a lasting impact with their audience.

Lord, because You place great value on music, so should I. It should have a prominent place in my life and worship. But rather than just being moved by the sound, You want me to especially be moved by the truth. Help me choose music that will properly lift up You and Your Word, and as a result, properly lift me up too.
