The Name of God

Read Jeremiah 31 – 33

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Thou showest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name. Jeremiah 32:17-18 KJV

God instructed Jeremiah to purchase a piece of land captured by the Babylonians as a picture promise to the people of Israel that God would bring them back into the land. Upon doing so, Jeremiah then went to God in prayer (Verses 17-25). This is a moving and powerful prayer, but notice especially the name of God used by Jeremiah. The name of God reveals who He is and what He does. He is the Great, the Mighty, and the Ever-existing One. As such, nothing is too hard for Him. He made heaven and earth by His power. In the same power He shows both loving-kindness and punishes sin. It was with this power God would punish Israel for their sin and rebellion but also show mercy in bringing them back into the land. It is in this same power He continues to punish sin, show mercy, and keep promises. God has not changed. Nothing is too difficult for Him!

Lord, You are the Great, the Mighty, the Ever-existing One, nothing is too difficult for You. With the same power by which You made the heaven and the earth You have showed kindness to me by saving me from my sins, and keeping Your promises to me.

A question to ponder: Since nothing is too difficult for the Lord, what am I struggling with that should be turned over to Him?
