The Potential of Small Tasks

Read 1 Samuel 9 – 11

And the asses of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses. 1 Samuel 9:3 KJV

I have often notice how some never accomplish anything while looking for a big task worthy of their talents. However, success often comes from the opposite direction. A small task often leads to a big opportunity. Saul was sent by his father to seek some lost donkeys. This was a meaningless and wearisome task with seemingly no prospect of bigger things, but God was working in it, and He makes big things out of small things. God used it to put Saul in contact with Samuel, and instructed Samuel to anoint Saul as the first king of Israel. Saul, a complete unknown, was performing an insignificant task, and yet God used his search for lost donkeys to lift him up to a position of prominence. Perhaps you feel you are wasting time in a small task getting you nowhere, but never underestimate what God can do. Serve Him in the task and He will make it worthwhile.

Lord, it seems incredible Saul went out in search of lost donkeys and came back a king. Teach me to be faithful in all I do, believing you are at work in the small things just as you are in the big things.
