The Prophet Has Come

The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken. Deuteronomy 18:15 KJV

This is actually a wonderful prophecy spoken by Moses of the coming of Jesus Christ. It was so familiar to people that even before Jesus fully revealed who He was, people wondered if He was the Prophet Moses spoke of. This passage is quoted in Acts 3:22-23 by the Apostle Peter as he preached to the multitude in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. The prophecy teaches a number of things about the Prophet that would come: (1) He would be sent from God; (2) He would speak for God; (3) He would be truly human; (4) He would come out of Israel; (5) He would be like Moses in the sense of a mediator; and (6) all would be responsible to hear and obey Him. Jesus fulfilled all these requirements. As the Apostle Peter connected this prophecy to Jesus, about 5000 people believed on Him, they trusted in Jesus as their Savior from sin and death. Have you done the same?

Lord, I am grateful the New Testament so clearly shows you as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies such as this one. It affirms the faith I have exercised in you. Like Peter, help me be a faithful witness of such to others that they also will have the opportunity to believe in you.
