The Quiet Whisper of God

By April 22, 2015No Comments

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12 KJV

Too often we look for God in the big things and are left disappointed when our experience with Him is not what we expected. Elijah looked for God in the mighty wind, the earthquake, and a great fire, but it was in a still small whisper that the presence and the voice of God were experienced. If we never get away from the noise, busyness, and big events of life it is unlikely we will ever enjoy the kind of intimacy with God we really need and long for. To hear the tender and compassionate voice of God it helps to get alone with Him. It doesn’t have to be a cave in the wilderness; it can be a few minutes alone in a corner of your home. Then be still while He speaks to you in the quietness.

Lord, how good it is to get away from everything else to enjoy quiet time with You. Too often I fail to take advantage of the opportunity, but the times I do are sweet and encouraging. Thank You for Your grace that allows me such a privilege.
