The Resurrection of the Dead

By September 12, 2014No Comments

Read Daniel 12

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Daniel 12:2 KJV

Here is a clear Old Testament statement concerning the general resurrection of the dead yet to occur in the future. Two general groups are mentioned: some to everlasting life, and some to everlasting contempt. As the first mention of everlasting life in the Old Testament this statement is significant, and in harmony with all New Testament teaching. Jesus makes an identical statement in John 5:28-29. The resurrection to eternal life will take place at the return of Christ before He establishes His Millennial Kingdom. It is a day which those of faith, both living and dead look forward to. The resurrection to eternal damnation occurs after the 1000 year reign of Christ at the White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20). It is the one day most people dread and deny they will be part of. The significant issue to settle is which group we’ll be in. This choice is made now, not then.

Lord, based upon the promises of Your Word, Your sacrifice and resurrection from the grave, and my faith in both, I understand my eternal destiny to already be settled. Thank You for Your love, grace, and mercy, which has made such an eternal prospect available.

A question to ponder: Have you placed your faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ that you might enjoy the promise of eternal life? (John 3:16)
