Time to Listen

Read Exodus 3:1-15

And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. Exodus 3:2 KJV

Most Christians are familiar with the burning bush experience of Moses, but not all have thought about it as prayer. It is one of the most significant prayers of the Bible. Meeting with God is what makes the time and place holy. For Moses it was dramatic and his actions were suggestive. Anytime and place we meet with God should be the same for us. There is nothing wrong with walking and talking with God, Enoch did, but there is something special about getting alone and spiritually, if not physically, taking off our shoes before Him. Throughout this occasion a conversation is brought to our attention: God said unto Moses and Moses said unto God. This is often emphasized in Scripture to remind us to listen. Had Moses not done so he would have missed the most valuable part of this occasion; I suspect in our times of prayer we do too much talking and not enough listening, and therefore often miss out on what is most valuable in our times of prayer.

Lord, meeting with you is our greatest privilege in life; every occasion is holy and humbling. Help me gain more from my times with you by simply being quiet and responsive to your leading.

A question to ponder: What are the most appropriate ways for me to be quiet before God that I might hear Him speak to me?
