Unity Among God’s People

Read Psalm 127 – 135

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. Psalm 133:1-3 KJV

Broken relationships are not only prevalent in our society, too often they common among God’s people as well. We allow too many things to divide us and keep us apart. Unity should be the desire of every child of God. Four benefits of it are brought to our attention in this psalm. (1) It is pleasant because we are part of the same family, brethren, brought together by God Himself. What could be better than working with one another in our service for Him? (2) It is precious like the anointing oil that was poured over the head of Aaron setting him apart as the high priest of Israel. The scent of it moved across the people and linked them together. (3) It is profitable as the dew that fell across the land from Mount Hermon. As this dew brought freshness and fruitfulness to the land so does unity among God’s people. (4) It is promising because God commands it to be blessed.

Lord, I greatly enjoy this psalm, I believe its message, and I strive to experience it. Help me do a better job of promoting its benefits, as described in this psalm, among Your people so that we might enjoy its full blessing in our lives.

A question to ponder: What are some practical ways I can promote unity among the people of God I worship with?
