Wonderful Attributes of God

By June 17, 2013No Comments

And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:17-19 KJV

Balak, the king of Moab, had hired Balaam, a prophet, to put a curse on the people of Israel as they passed through the land of Moab. Every time Balaam sought to curse them, he blessed Israel instead. On this second attempt, Balaam confessed a wonderful truth about God: He is not like us, He cannot lie, He cannot change, and whatever He says He will do. The message was clear: having already blessed Israel He would not change it to a curse. That message should be a very encouraging one for us who know the Lord. Since God does not change, these attributes of Him are still true. He will not lie to us and every promise He has made to us, in Jesus Christ, He will keep. We can count on His blessing.

Lord, I am glad You are not like us. I am glad You cannot lie and cannot change. It is comforting to know that every promise You have made You will keep. These truths about You give me hope, not only for the future, but also for this day. As I make decisions and as I seek to do what is right, I know I can based them on what You have promised.
