As flooding hits Michigan, New York, and New Jersey, Baptist Builders Club has called state representatives and churches in affected areas to see if they need help.

The Associated Press reports, “New York’s heaviest downpour on record dumped a summer’s worth of rain on parts of Long Island in a matter of hours Wednesday, swamping highways before drivers could escape, flooding basements and causing at least one death. The 13.26 inches recorded at the MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma during the morning was more than the area’s normal combined total for June, July and August of 11.75 inches.”

Parts of New Jersey got more than seven inches of rain. Earlier in the week, a rainstorm in Michigan “caused flooding that shut down most of the Detroit-area expressway system.”

One church in Michigan has suffered a complete basement flood and is awaiting assessment reports from its insurance company. The church is not sure if insurance will cover any of the damage, since the floodwaters came up through drains. The church secretary said there was too much rain too fast and the drainage system could not keep up with the water.

Please be in prayer for this church as it figures out what the next steps will be. Baptist Builders Club is standing by ready to assist when it finds out what help is needed. If you would like to assist churches like this that need assistance, donate now.
