Think on These Things

Read Philippians 1 – 4

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 KJV

What fills your mind: your thoughts when you are awake or even asleep? This is a very important question. What we think about, impacts how we feel, what we do, and our relationship with God. We tend to think on many things that are destructive to us. For instance: if we fill our minds with the things of this world, whether through television, the things we read, or the influence of friends, then we will tend to think like this world thinks, conform to the behavior of this world, and become distant from God in our relationship with Him. But, if we fill our minds with things that are true, honest, and pure; if we fill our minds with things that are lovely, virtuous, of good report, and praiseworthy, then our attitudes and actions will be transformed accordingly, and our relationship with God will enjoy His approval. Paul says we will enjoy the peace of God.

Lord, quite often I fill my mind with the ambitions and aspirations of this world. It wears me down and effects the way I think about myself, others and you. Of course that also effects what I do. Instead, I want your thoughts about me, others, and life to be my thoughts that I might enjoy your peace.

A question to ponder: What are some simple steps I can take to help me think better than I presently do?
