A Bold Confession

Read Daniel 3 – 5

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Daniel 3:17-18 KJV

This was the reply of the three friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to King Nebuchadnezzar when given a choice between bowing down to the image he had made or being thrown into the fiery furnace. The image was huge and everyone across the land was expected to bow toward it whenever the signal to do so was given. The pressure to go along with the crowd was enormous. They refused. It was a bold confession of faith.   They did not doubt God could deliver them, but they did not know if He would. That did not matter. Whether in life or death they would serve the Lord. They believed it was better to die serving Him than live denying Him. Our faith is rarely tested to the extreme it was for these men, but it is tested. Everyday we make choices to serve the Lord or not. That’s where the real choice was for them, not living or dying, but serving or not serving.

Lord, it doesn’t matter if I think I can die for You if I am not ready to live for You. Help me serve You in life through the daily choices I make, and the pressure I am often under to do otherwise.

A question to ponder: In what ways do I make choices every day to serve or not serve the Lord with my life?
