A Decisive Moment

And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. Ruth 1:16-17 KJV

These words are often used in weddings as the expression of the bride to the bridegroom. They serve that purpose very well. But they are actually the words of a young widow to her mother-in-law, and convey a decisive moment of conversion. Ruth was turning from her people and her god to the Lord God and His people. The testimony of Ruth is exciting to read. As she turned to the Lord, He blessed and worked wonderfully in her life. The Lord is prepared to do the same with each of us as we turn from sin, the world, and gods of our own making to Him. He receives us, blesses us, changes the direction of our lives, and gives us hope. Have you experienced such a decisive moment? If not, turn to Him today.

Lord, I am grateful for the day I turned to You. You have changed my life, blessed me, and given me hope and meaning for the future. I thank You for all You’ve done.
