A Nail in a Sure Place

By August 29, 2011No Comments

And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house. And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. Isaiah 22:22-24 KJV

Although this is a reference to a man who was to be raised to a position of great authority, it is also an allusion to Jesus Christ as He applies these verses to Himself in Revelation 3:7. The authority of the house of David would rest upon His shoulder. He is likened to a nail hammered into the wall, on which the vessels of the house could be hung. Certainly this is an illustration of the security of all who have put their trust in Jesus Christ. He is, indeed, a nail in a sure place. Attached to Him, our own position with the Father is secure. Our security does not rest on our ability to cling to the nail but on the ability of the nail to remain sure and continue to hold us in place, and He is secure enough to hold us all.

Lord, without You I have no place in the household of God, You hold me up, You alone give me security. Because You are fastened in a sure place and cannot be moved, neither can I. Thank You.
