A New Creature

Read 2 Corinthians 5 – 9

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

This has got to be one of the most encouraging verses from the New Testament for anyone who understands the life of sin from which they were saved. I do not think I exaggerate in the least. When we acknowledge our sinfulness, believe in Jesus, and trust His finished work at the cross, we become something new: a new creature in Christ. A spiritual transformation takes place immediately, and the physical change begins which concludes with us being like Jesus. The Apostle Paul says the old things are gone. These things include a just condemnation, the corruption of personal sin, and a life without purpose. In place of such things everything is new: heaven becomes our home, God gives us meaning and purpose, and we are given a fresh start without bondage to sin. Nothing else can match this new beginning in Christ, or our final transformation into His likeness.

Lord, thank you for making me entirely new when I trusted in you. Things I struggled with for years you took care of in a moment. My life has not been the same since becoming a Christian because you have made me a new Creature.

A question to ponder: Besides the spiritual changes which took place immediately, what other changes have occurred in my life since becoming a Christian?
