A Warning Against False Prophets

By March 14, 2013No Comments

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Mark 13:5-6 KJV

Sitting on the Mount of Olives with His disciples, overlooking the city of Jerusalem, Jesus described the signs of His coming. This has become known as the Olivet Discourse and can also be found in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. Here we have the first of many signs which make up the beginning of sorrows (v. 8) or the first half of the Tribulation: the multiplication of false teachers. John calls them antichrists in 1 John 2:18. Here Jesus says four things about them: (1) there will be many of them, (2) they come in His name, (3) they claim to be Him, and (4) they will deceive many. Even in recent years we have witnessed an increase of false teachers; apparently this will only get worst in the future.

Lord, because false teachers are already on the rise we know we are in the end times. Help us who know You to be careful who we listen to and follow. Help us to know the truth so we will not be deceived by teachings which are not true. Also help us proclaim the truth that others might be protected as well.
