Acting Foolishly Before God

By March 29, 2014No Comments

Read 1 Samuel 12 – 14

And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 1 Samuel 13:13 KJV

Despite the resources provided by God, it did not take Saul long to prove he was not cut out to be a godly leader. Verse 13 says Saul acted foolishly, that is an understatement. By offering the sacrifice he was showing disregard for the sacrifice, the altar, the priesthood, and God’s command. He acted independent of God, in disobedience to God, and selfishly. It didn’t matter whether it seemed like the right thing or not. God isn’t looking for what seems right to us, He’s looking for obedience. It is interesting that Samuel showed up immediately following Saul’s foolish act of impatience. Had he just waited a little longer the outcome would have been very different. Because of foolish impatience rather than having his kingdom established, Saul had the kingdom stripped from him. How often such is true among us! When waiting on God never give in to impatience.

Lord, I know my own tendency toward impatience has often brought more harm than good into my life. Help me to be quick to wait on You and slow to take matters into my own hands that I might enjoy Your intended blessing rather than personal loss.
