An Example of Faithfulness

Read Daniel 6 – 8

Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. Daniel 6:4-5 KJV

While Daniel was a captive, Babylon fell to the Medes and the Persians, and Darius became ruler of the entire kingdom. Daniel was favored by King Darius above all the presidents and princes of the land and lifted in authority over them. Out of jealousy and envy for his position they conspired to bring about his downfall. Then as now, corruption was common in politics so they expected to quickly find fault with him and bring about his destruction. However, after much observation, they found nothing. There was no dirt to dig up on Daniel. They concluded the only way to trap him was in his faithfulness to the God he served so they started watching his devotional lifestyle. The most obvious thing about Daniel was his habit of prayer. What a tremendous testimony! The young man we met in chapter one was now an elder statesman and still living wholly for the Lord.

Lord, very few in our day seem to be wholly devoted to You as Daniel was. Sins of the flesh continue to bring our leaders to shame and destruction. Daniel began, continued, and finished well. That’s what I want for my own life. Help me remain devoted till the end. May it be true that the only fault others can find in me is in my faithfulness to You.

A question to ponder: What obvious thing in my life could others use against me if they desired, an act of unfaithfulness or faithfulness to God?
