Choosing Life

Read Deuteronomy 30 – 34

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV

Life is filled with decisions. Some may not seem like big decisions, but they affect other areas of life, for longer periods of time, and so are bigger than they seem. Such is true in the decisions we make in our relationship with God. Having rehearsed with the people of Israel both the blessings and curses of God’s Law, Moses understood the decision was not his to make but theirs, so he challenged them to make the right one. It was a choice that would not only affect their immediate lives, but their children, and their children. To choose life, according to verse 20, involves loving, obeying, and clinging to Him. These activities promote life rather than death because God is life, when we involve ourselves with Him we involve ourselves with life. On the other hand, if we choose not to be involved with God, it is the same as choosing death, because He alone is and gives life.

Lord, so many seem to rebel against any involvement with you, it is difficult to understand because the consequences of their choice seem so apparent, having chosen, by your grace, to love, obey, and cling to you, the positive difference has been blessing. Thank you for the difference your life has made in my life.
